15 Solar-Powered VELUX Conservation Window Replacements in Helmsley, North Yorkshire
Our Skylight Fitters installation team recently completed a major VELUX replacement project at a property in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, near York, replacing 15 older VELUX roof windows with new solar-powered VELUX conservation windows.
The property originally had 15 VELUX GVT 154 roof windows installed into a slate roof. These were removed and replaced with 15 VELUX GGL CK04 2570H conservation roof windows, complete with VELUX EDL CK04 2500 slate flashing kits, underfelt collars and insulation collars.
The new windows were also upgraded to solar-powered operation and connected to VELUX App Control, giving the customer convenient control of the roof windows from a smart device.

Replacing 15 VELUX Roof Windows in Helmsley
With 15 roof windows to replace, this was a substantial VELUX installation project.
Our team began by carefully removing the existing VELUX GVT 154 windows and preparing each opening for the new CK04 conservation windows.
Because the property had a slate roof, the replacement windows required flashing designed specifically to integrate the windows correctly with the surrounding slate.
Replacing all 15 windows as part of the same project also provided a consistent appearance across the roof.
Installing VELUX CK04 2570H Conservation Windows
For the replacement installation, we fitted 15 VELUX GGL CK04 2570H conservation roof windows.
The conservation design provides the distinctive traditional external appearance associated with the VELUX conservation range, making it particularly suited to properties where maintaining the character and appearance of the roof is important.
Each window was installed individually into the existing roof openings before being integrated into the surrounding slate roof.
VELUX EDL Slate Flashing Kits
As the property was finished with slate, we used VELUX EDL CK04 2500 flashing kits with the new conservation windows.
Correct flashing is an important part of any VELUX roof-window installation because it forms the connection between the roof window and the surrounding roofing material.
For this project, the EDL flashing allowed each CK04 window to be properly integrated into the existing slate roof while maintaining a neat external finish.
Underfelt and Insulation Collars
The installation also included VELUX underfelt collars and insulation collars around each of the 15 new roof windows.
The underfelt collars provide the connection between the roof-window installation and the surrounding roofing underlay, while the insulation collars provide additional insulation around the window frame.
Using the complete installation system meant that the work involved much more than simply exchanging the old windows for new ones. Each opening was prepared, insulated, weatherproofed and flashed into the existing slate roof as part of the replacement process.
Upgrading the VELUX Windows to Solar Power
The replacement windows were also upgraded to solar-powered operation.
Solar operation provides powered opening and closing without the need to run conventional mains electrical wiring to every window.
For a property containing 15 roof windows, this provided a significant upgrade from the previous installation and made controlling the windows considerably more convenient.
VELUX App Control
We also installed VELUX App Control, allowing the compatible solar-powered roof windows to be controlled through the VELUX system from a smart device.
With 15 new roof windows installed across the property, app control gives the customer a convenient way of managing the windows without needing to operate each window manually.
The combination of VELUX conservation windows, solar operation and app control allowed the property to retain a traditional external appearance while benefiting from modern roof-window technology.
VELUX Conservation Window Replacement in Helmsley
Helmsley and the surrounding North Yorkshire area contain many traditional and character properties where the appearance of replacement roof windows can be particularly important.
For this project, replacing the older GVT roof windows with new conservation-style units provided a consistent appearance across the slate roof while upgrading the property with modern VELUX windows, improved installation products and solar-powered operation.

Once all of the original windows had been removed, the 15 new VELUX CK04 conservation windows were installed with their EDL slate flashing kits, underfelt collars and insulation collars.
The solar-powered operation and VELUX App Control were then set up to complete the upgrade.
The finished property now has a consistent set of 15 modern solar-powered VELUX conservation roof windows integrated into the existing slate roof.
