Latest VELUX® models for better thermal performance
From removal to installation and finishing
Replacing an old VELUX window is an opportunity to improve insulation, reduce draughts and update the look of a room. We match the new unit to the existing structural opening whenever possible, which keeps the internal decoration intact and avoids the cost of rebuilding the reveal.
The VELUX code is usually found on the identification plate on the top of the sash. This code tells us the size, model and glazing. Many older GGL, GGU, GHL and GPL units have direct current-generation equivalents, so the replacement can often be made without enlarging the opening.
The right flashing kit is essential. EDL flashing is used for slate, E-P for plain tiles, EDW for profiled roofing material up to 120 mm, and other kits for interlocking tiles and flat roofs. An insulation collar and underfelt collar are also fitted to maintain the watertight seal and thermal performance.
A full replacement is the better option when the frame has failed, the window has been repaired several times, or you want to change the size, operation or finish. For glass-only problems with a sound frame, see our VELUX glass replacement service.
