Frequently Asked Questions About VELUX Sun Tunnel Installation in Macclesfield
How much light does a sun tunnel add in Macclesfield?
A sun tunnel in Macclesfield can add a surprising amount of natural light to a dark room. The exact amount depends on the tunnel length, diameter and roof orientation.
What is the difference between rigid and flexible sun tunnels in Macclesfield?
Rigid sun tunnels give the brightest light where the roof dome is almost directly above the ceiling. Flexible tunnels in Macclesfield are used when the route around roof timbers is not straight.
Do sun tunnels need planning permission in Macclesfield?
VELUX sun tunnels in Macclesfield usually fall within permitted development and do not need planning permission. We can advise if your property is listed or in a conservation area near the local area.
Do sun tunnels work on cloudy days in Macclesfield?
Sun tunnels in Macclesfield still provide useful light on overcast days, although output is highest in direct sun. They work well in the conditions typical of the area.
Local Macclesfield Considerations for Sun Tunnel Installation
Sun tunnel installation in Macclesfield is ideal for hallways, bathrooms and utility rooms in the Victorian and modern housing typical of local homes. We choose the right tunnel type for the roof and ceiling position.
What happens during a sun tunnel installation in Macclesfield?
For Macclesfield homes, we survey the roof covering, rafter positions and ceiling before fitting the roof dome, reflective tube and ceiling diffuser.
- A small roof dome is fitted on the roof and a reflective tube is routed to the ceiling.
- We check the roof covering, rafter positions and ceiling location to plan the route.
- The work area is cleaned and the system is checked before we leave.
- We choose rigid or flexible tubing based on the straightness of the route and the light level needed.
Sun tunnel installation know-how for Macclesfield
In Macclesfield, the choice between rigid and flexible sun tunnels depends on the distance and direction between the roof dome and the ceiling diffuser.
- We finish the ceiling diffuser and roof dome neatly to match the room and roof covering.
- Solar-powered and electric diffusers are available for hard-to-reach rooms.
- Longer tunnel runs and multiple bends reduce light output, so we design the shortest practical route.
