Frequently Asked Questions About VELUX Sun Tunnel Installation in Knutsford
Do sun tunnels need planning permission in Knutsford?
VELUX sun tunnels in Knutsford usually fall within permitted development and do not need planning permission. We can advise if your property is listed or in a conservation area near the local area.
Do sun tunnels work on cloudy days in Knutsford?
Sun tunnels in Knutsford still provide useful light on overcast days, although output is highest in direct sun. They work well in the conditions typical of the area.

Local Knutsford Considerations for Sun Tunnel Installation
We install VELUX sun tunnels in Knutsford and the surrounding area to bring natural daylight into rooms with no external wall. Rigid or flexible tunnels are chosen based on the roof and ceiling route.
What happens during a sun tunnel installation in Knutsford?
We choose the shortest, most efficient route to bring daylight into the room below.
- A small roof dome is fitted on the roof and a reflective tube is routed to the ceiling.
- The work area is cleaned and the system is checked before we leave.
- We choose rigid or flexible tubing based on the straightness of the route and the light level needed.
- The ceiling diffuser is installed in the room below and sealed neatly.
Sun tunnel installation know-how for Knutsford
Our Knutsford sun tunnel surveys check the roof covering, loft space and ceiling position to choose the most efficient route.
- Longer tunnel runs and multiple bends reduce light output, so we design the shortest practical route.
- Solar-powered and electric diffusers are available for hard-to-reach rooms.
- Rigid sun tunnels are the most efficient option when the roof dome is almost directly above the ceiling.
- We finish the ceiling diffuser and roof dome neatly to match the room and roof covering.
